Prison in Norway
So by now we've all heard about Anders Breivik's horror show in Norway. I'm sure that most of us believe that he should be locked up and the key thrown away...drum roll...maximum sentences in Norway are only 21 years and to add to that, he'll probably find himself living in a "5 star" prison.
The prison is 100 K's south of Oslo in a place called Halden. The individual cell's at this prison all come with an en-suite bathroom and a flat screen TV. About, 10 to 12 units get to share a living room and kitchen. Added to this, the windows are not fitted with bars, but rather with thick glass. The artworks in the prison were even commissioned by one of Norway's top street artists, Dolk.
There is an official high school in the prison where prisoners can be taught subjects such as IT, music, science, art and different languages. The prisoners can get together and start a rock band. They are encouraged to participate in a lot of outdoor activities and this wasn't enough they get personal trainers to help them through it.
The guards at this prison don't carry guns and they interact with the prisoners, from eating together to even playing sports with each other. How our prisoners would love this environment...
